Content of Your Video
It goes without saying that the quality of your video is important as to how many sets of eyeballs you’ll get. The key is to capture your audience in the first few seconds (ideally 3 – 7 seconds). This short amount of time is when people decide to keep watching or drop-out, so make sure you have something enticing at the beginning.
Imagery and Captions for Your Video
Did you know that up to 85% of Facebook videos are initially viewed without audio? Therefore, your audience needs to be tempted to stay watching and switch on the sound with attractive and captivating imagery. This includes movement of the camera, use of various colours, and interesting visuals. Subtitles help too and be sure the script is as interesting as the video.
So how do you know if your videos are good quality?
Apart from the obvious “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” count, YouTube determines the quality and ranks your video by how viewers interact with it, this includes:
- Retention Rate – the percentage of your video that people watched (the longer they watched the better, preferably all the way without dropping out), and whether they stay and watch more videos afterwards.
- Commenting – whether good or bad, having comments on your video mean that people probably did watch your video.
- Subscribers – if people click Subscribe after viewing your video, that’s a great positive sign that they enjoyed it, and can boost your ranking significantly.
- Playlist – some people might add your video to ‘watch later’ or ‘favourite’ playlist, which is also a plus sign for your business.
